Case Studies

Global Rollout of Environment Regulatory Compliance Solutions

Our client, a global provider of commercial cleaning and hygiene products, is required to provide MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets). This is a common requirement across the chemical manufacturing industry. Surtel implemented a unified, global process that met the requirements of each country, reduced the costs of creating the MSDS documents and, reduced errors and delays by improving document management.

Supply Chain Fill Rate Improvement

The fill rates and delivery times are critical in maintaining outstanding customer satisfaction. Surtel's commitment to rapid solutions dramatically increased the client's first-time fill rates by 20% after eight weeks. The client also achieved process improvements that reduced manual intervention in the manufacturing planning system by 60%.

MRP Performance Improvement

One of the main components of the Supply Chain is the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) process. Interruptions to this process will result in delays that will impact customer satisfaction levels. Our client, operating in a global manufacturing environment, experienced one of these supply chain interruptions. The cause of the interruption was traced back to the daily MRP program with a run time of more than eight hours.

Outside Operations Implementation Using J D Edwards ERP Software

Surtel implemented the JD Edwards ERP system for a global provider of commercial cleaning and hygiene products. The implementation involved replacing a legacy system and improving processes through system automation. The key JD Edwards modules such as Manufacturing, Procurement, Distribution, and Finance were configured to process the client's unique business requirements. This Case Study will discuss the two most complex business processes that required Outside Operations.

Outside Operations Process Improvement

Surtel implemented process improvements that reduced inventory errors by $1.8 Million for a global leader of aerospace and industrial products. Products in the client's industrial division have a complex build process that requires several outside operation steps such as painting, and subassembly. Surtel conducted a detailed study of the process, presented the findings to the client, and implemented the proposed solution within three months.

E-Kanban Implementation Reduces Shortages

The client's manual Kanban system consisted of an off-line manual data management process using excel and access excess. This system was no longer suitable for their business needs. The dramatic increase in the number of Kanban cards led to increased complexity for the users in manually maintaining the cards. To complicate the process, there was no real-time information available for open Kanban orders. Our study indicated efficiencies would be gained by using Kanban for placing purchase orders directly to the suppliers.

Creative, Low-Cost Approach for Implementing Project Billing

Implementing JD Edwards ERP modules such as Job Costing, Service or Contract Billing typically fulfills the business requirements associated with project billing. Surtel implemented a creative approach for project billing without the expense of configuring other billing modules.

All Door Open to All Door Closed using Q-Software SEC-QureE1Config

Surtel implemented the Q-Software-s SEC-QureE1Config software for a leading global marketer and manufacturer of consumer-branded products for commercial and institutional users. This Case Study documents challenges faced in converting from All Door Open to All Door Closed security model and how Surtel helped the client overcome those challenges and get them closer to their goal of achieving SOX compliance.

JDE to SAP Conversion

Our client is a leading manufacturer and distributor of Electric and Automation products. The client was acquired by a leading one-source supplier of electronic, electrical and fiber optical interconnects to switches and application tooling. After the acquisition, there was an immediate need for a quick and seamless data conversion with the client's business and IT systems apart from providing application support to their existing systems.

Legacy System to JDE Conversion

One of our clients had inherited various ERP systems because of company accusations in recent years. Our task was to come up with a process that could be re-used and not dependent on an existing ERP system.

Logility Interface

Our client, a global provider of commercial cleaning and hygiene products, is going to utilize the Logility Voyager Software for Demand Planning, Inventory Planning, and Replenishment Planning and needed a solution of getting the accurate and timely data from JD Edwards, transferring to Logility and back to JD Edwards.

Caribbean Implementation

Our client launched an aggressive 3 months initiative to integrate the JD Edwards-s platform into the operations for their Caribbean countries Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica. The project had to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and the client's Growth & Profitability Report Model (GPR). The processes to be covered included Finance, Quote to Cash and Buy to Pay as well as the corresponding localizations, data conversion, interfaces, operational reports, Business Intelligence (BI) reports, and custom forms.

Advanced Planning System (APS) integration issue with Oracle JDE

Our goal was the improvement of the supply chain planning process, which most of our clients manufacturing sites have implemented or are looking to implement the Advance Planning System (APS – Oracle APS, J. D. Edwards Numetrix, Logility, and Gain Systems) and integrating with traditional ERP system like Oracle JD Edwards, SAP, etc.

Engineering Change Management

Our client is a global, world-class manufacturer of premium quality products for both branded and private label categories. They upgraded from an earlier version of JD Edwards to EnterpriseOne this last year and wanted to find ways to better utilize their ERP software. The Engineering Change Order (ECO) process was identified as an area to improve efficiencies. Engineering changes to bills of material were done manually with little traceability back to the original change request. Surtel implemented the Engineering Change Management module which provided visibility of the original change request and automated the process to update the bills of material.
